-A Bilingual Poetry Reading and Conversation with Hiromi Ito and Jeffrey Angles
Hiromi Ito and her translator, Jeffrey Angles, will have a conversation about language, sexuality, and living between countries. Along with the conversation, there will be a bilingual reading, featuring poems from the newly published books Killing Kanoko: Selected Poems of Hiromi Ito (2009) and passages from Yomitoki Hanya Shingyo (Interpreting the Heart Sutra, 2010).

Jeffrey Angles (the translator of "Soul Dance" by Takako Arai), for his translation of Chimako Tada's "Forest of Eyes" won the 2009 Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature at the Donald Keene Center of Japanese Culture at Columbia University in September, 2009.

Sawako Nakayasu (the additional-translator of "Soul Dance"), for her translation "For the Fighting Spirit of the Walnut" by Takashi Hiraide won the 2009 Best Translated Book Award from Three Percent, a resource for international literature at the University of Rochester in February.
